Interesting that they were so quick to settle after the judge (re)issued the gag order and they were no longer able to try the case in the media.

Ideally, we would have fought this and won.  But I'm glad it's over.  This thing was a huge shadow looming over our most anticipated football season in years (and probably next season, too), so now there will hopefully be no distractions.  Also, look for our recruiting class to pick up some steam now.  I'm sure we were getting beaten over the head with this by rival coaches, and now that's a card they can no longer play.

This was a top down directed settlement.  They have been in discussion since April.

Thieves

At least they just stole the ceramic gnome, and not the TV.

The direct cost of continuing to fight would be considerable. The indirect costs were prohibitive. I think the settlement was probably the best option for a variety of reasons.

I will disagree on the negative recruiting though. Opposing coaches will be able to get mileage out of this for awhile despite the settlement.

that is my problem with mat of these types of lawsuits
They really are about extorting money rather than redress of issues

I bet the lawyers will keep the majority of that $2.48 million for their services. And the public will likely never know because of confidentiality agreements.

Yes this was a ransom payment like most Title IX settlements to date.

I saw somewhere that the plaintiffs get <$700K each

It would have to be far less than $700k. I'm not a math whiz but I can do that math.

The question is, how quickly you had to pull your shoes off??

The main reason I go shoeless is to expedite the computation of complex problems, like the sum of an Oatmeal Creme Pie, Twix, and a Yoo Hoo.

If anything positive comes out of this, it may involve an overhaul of the University's process for adjudicating student misbehavior and/or grievances.  The system was a joke when i was in school and from what I have read has improved little to none.

From an article I saw today, each person was to receive about $166,000 after the lawyer feed at the trough. If any lawyers are offended by my remarks; good. You should be offended and shamed by your money-grubbing, scum-sucking fellow lawyers that once again gamed a system to line their pockets with cash.

It irritated me that the lawyer started some type of heroic dialogue as if he slayed a dragon or something. Just shut up and take the money already you bottom feeder!

Not a bad haul for a college student or recent college student.
