murf, I would say some of both.
In hindsight, Patterson would have probably been a really good hire.
I don't remember any proven coaches wanting the job when we hired Dooley, or Butch, or Pruitt. I could very well be wrong about that, though.
That's a good point. I'd throw Leach in the "decent" category, but I can't remember any other options.
I wonder if increased salaries have made moves less likely. If you can make $2 million/year on a four year deal as the head coach at Iowa State, or $1 million/year as a coordinator at a solid program the need to move is less.
