If you remove the 1998 BCSNC game (since it was a postseason game), this is the first time in program history that Tennessee has played a #1 vs. #2 game. The closest we've ever come to this sort of stage in the regular season was the 1997 game against Florida, when UF was #1 and we were #4, and against Georgia Tech in 1956 when GaTech was #2 and we were #3. Games like this just don't come along very often.
It's unbelievable. And every time I think I have my BVS symptoms completely caged, I'm reminded that Gene Chizik won a national championship at Auburn with a Heisman-worthy QB. Or that Jimbo caught lightning in a bottle for one season at TAMU with a Heisman-worthy QB.
