Vol fans everywhere are riding high, drunk on their first CFP #1 ranking, all the while suffering from irrational exuberance dating back to the third Saturday in October. It is now even infecting some national media types and CFP committee members.
But it all ends tomorrow.
UT-Knoxville has had a nice little run this season, taking advantage of impaired LSU and Florida teams, as they should have. And somehow, Bama forgot how to play defense. Vol fans should be happy and proud of what Chumley and his troops have accomplished so far. But the Georgia Bulldogs are the reigning National Champions, undefeated and looking to repeat. The road to Atlanta goes through Athens this year (and pretty much every year), and this is where the buck stops for the Vols.
No way is UT-Knoxville going to win tomorrow’s football game.
I could throw around some meaningless national stat rankings.. Scoring offense: UT-Knoxville 1, UGA 6 Scoring defense: UT-Knoxville 26, UGA 2 Total offense: UT-Knoxville 1, UGA 2 Total defense: UT-Knoxville 80, UGA 4 .. but stats don’t win games.
I could look to UGA’s 5-game winning streak against UT-Knoxville; each game won by no less than 3 TDs. But history doesn’t win games.
I could point to home field advantage, or how loud the crowd will be. Or recruiting rankings. Or that the Vegas sharps have UGA as an 8pt fave. But that is all just noise.
UGA will beat UT-Knoxville tomorrow, because UGA is the better team. Look for UGA to beat UT-Knoxville like it stole something, which it has: the CFP #1 ranking. That is disrespectful, and to a man, UGA knows it. In other words, WWFDT!
To Vols everywhere, I wish you safe travels to Athens and back. Just remember, the Sugar Bowl is not a bad consolation prize.
Go Dawgs! Sic ‘em! Woof, woof, woof.

I'm 60 years old Dec. 22. I've lived long enough to know that ugly's default is underachieving with good talent. You've been riding high while we have been on sabbatical. It may take a year or two but we will reestablish our presence. We will be going head to head with you both on the field and in the living room. And you know it.

The Oregon win was impressive. Rest of your season is sort of meh. Georgia is beatable. The Vols are hungry.

Everyone we’ve played had a highly ranked defense…before they played us.

Sorry dog, you don't get credit for last year. Doesn't really matter though does it? Because tomorrow, it will be decided. Your exuberance is well noted.... everyone is all fired up until they get hit in the mouth. Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise and the plank don't fall, we will stomp a mudhole in yer arses tomorrow..... nothing personal, it's just business.

Here is a stat you missed...uga is 120th in the country in team sacks. Wow. I thought your DL was supposed to be good? And against pitiful competition also. You won't be playing Mizzou or Kent State tomorrow. Your sack leader is out. THus it only gets worse. As for our 80th in total defense, it's inflated by teams throwing a lot to catch up with us. What matters is we are 32nd in pass efficiency defense. Not great, but good enough to beat ole noodle arm you have back there. as for my first two points above, what a lot of people are saying, who I mostly respect, is that to slow the Vol offense you pressure Hooker and make him uncomfortable. 120th in the country with your sack leader on the sideline....good luck with that! Fiddy is a distinct possiblity here, but it may only take 35.
