Was by no means the most violent hit. Really strange.

Almost like a heart attack?
Injuries are one thing....This was a life or death issue on the field on TV

Unconfirmed report from a Cinci reporter that he has a pulse, but is not breathing on his own. If they had to perform CPR for that long, that’s…not good.

A tweet, supposedly from his marketing rep, said that his vital signs were normal and they had put him to sleep to insert a breathing tube.

I just saw a video done by a guy in sports medicine who said this is probably something called commotio cordis.

Link is no longer good.
That a shame. It was a good simple explanation of commotio cordis.

After I saw the replay that's the first thing I thought of. I've read about it happening in baseball after being hit in the chest area by a baseball. This might not be what happened last night but it came to my mind.

When I first saw the replay, I thought Hamlin may have got a helmet to the chin. It was also a very awkward hit in that he was a little contorted upon impact and that kinda continued on to the ground. I wondered if maybe he had some freak catastrophic injury to the throat/windpipe. But I guess a chest impact and resulting heart attack may be the most likely scenario. Or maybe he had some unknown pre-existing condition. Very scary indeed. Seeing the look on the players faces brought back some painful memories. When my daughter was two, she had a tonsillectomy. The Doc's really pushed for the surgery because she had bad sleep apnea. During the surgery the anesthesiologist screwed up and my daughters heart stopped! One of the nurses started yelling "CODE BLUE" and they sorta pushed us out of the OR. We were standing there behind the curtain while they did CPR. The way I felt then was just like what I saw on TV last night. That certainly brought some tears. As it happened for us, my daughter came thru fine, thank the good Lord. I sure hope the powers that be can give Hamlin a little help as well.

Seems I recall many years ago that a Detroit Lion had a heart attack on field & died. Could be wrong. The Lions also had to resuscitate another player not as long ago. He is paralyzed I believe.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_HughesI would have been 6 years old. I think my family & I were watching the game when it happened. That's a long time ago. Can't be sure if we were watching live.
