That many of us would take off work on this day every year to stare at a livestream of a fax machine.

I had the same thought. The early signing period in December and to a lesser extent the portal has really taken all the air out of the traditional signing day.

I remember this was always (for me at least) the biggest deal between Jan and Sept.  Sadly, part of the reason for my reduced interest precedes the early signing day and the portal, meaning that Tennessee sucked at recruiting for a while (at least compared to the Fulmer days).

Looking back, I am actually shocked we did as well as we did.  With rare exceptions (Pruitt's last year and Dooley's last year) we typically finished in the top 20, and occasionally in the top 10.

It speaks volumes of how bad our corching was, that we only finished in the top twenty twice in all those years (2015 and 2016), and arguably those teams should have been top 10 if not top 5.

I only knew because they?ve been talking about it in regards to the timing of the TRO.

Well, I looked and I didn't see anything about movement on the recruiting front. Does anyone know did we get any signees? I expect not or we would have heard.

We got all of them in the early signing period, most were early entry as well

Very few recruits don't sign in December these days
In fact, I would move the December signing day up a week or so, say 10 days after the end of the regular season and do away with the Feb signing day.

Bringing the signing day forward a week allows coaches more time for the portal (plus you know where you missed with incoming recruits)

Also, if I were King, I'd do away with the December portal and only do a post Spring Semester portal opening (post spriong practice) in football

That would allow coaches to concentrate on recruits in the fall and portal in the spring
Also, would allievate the variable portal windows do to playoff teams (now 12) and coaching changes

That would end of lot of the self generated ncaa CHAOS that their President whines about all the time

Agree about eliminating the February signing day...it has become increasingly pointless, and frankly now is IMO.
