through the gorge at the TN/NC border are GONE.

You know that river is just gonna keep gnawing at that bank until it gets back to normal levels. It isn't supposed to crest until 8 pm tonight. I'll be surprised if the westbound lanes survive.

Judging by Google maps, there?s no good way to get between TN and NC right now, unless you want to chance it on The Dragon.

We drove the dragon's tail two weeks ago by mistake. If it was the only connection between SC and my family in TN, we'll see you on Teams

LOL- I ?discovered? it when I was living Knoxville and still driving a Geo Metro. Just out for a lazy Saturday drive. I had no idea I had stumbled upon the most notorious motorcycle road in the world until it was too late to turn around.

I-26 is also out at Erwin. There are bridges out that completely cut off both eastbound and westbound lanes.

I drive through Hot Springs yesterday. Oh my, that river went through that town with a vengeance. If you pray, those people could sure use them. 🙏🏻

I've seen the video/[ictures
If the remaining spans are ok, that should be a relatively quick repair
I saw an article that TDOT was going to start awarding contracts for bridge repairs this week, but no details on what the priorirues were

Judging by the amount of time/work required to repair the highway slide above Oneida on I-75 the I-40 repairs for much worse damage are going to take a lot of time to repair
So gettiing I-26 back is critical for goods and services

Did you cross in front of the Cheoah dam on that bridge.  The pylons that support that bridge are VERY good trout spots.  I fish there 3-4 times a year.

On TOS there was a poster with links to a shipping company that says they were told March for I-26 and September for I-40

We came to the beach for a week.  Took 81 up to Virginia then 74 down on the other side of Charlotte.
