Perhaps this is a good reason to do away with the conference championship games.

The argument isn't as strong as it is for the conference championship games for basketball. But, it's worth considering.

Rece Davis is probably right about one thing. When it comes to the playoffs, the teams should be seeded, regardless of who wins the conference championship game.

Until they quit giving conference champs auto bids we will still have to have it. I am against auto-bids for conferences because i prefer the 12 best teams. The weak conferences champs would not beat half the SEC teams. I say use the old BCS format and conferences be damned. A committee deciding is a joke. I would even be okay with using the AP poll and take the top 12 ranked teams no; matter what conference they are from.

That will NEVER happen
The P4 conferences will ALWAYS get auto bids, it is baked in
Follow the $$$$

Deal with it

How many power P4 conferences don't have teams in the top 12. They would never be left out anyway.

same with the G5 teams. If one is not ranked in the top 12 they don't get in. There are a lot of better teams that would be left out. Auto-bids are not the answer.

IMO it's not fair the conference winners have to play a 13th game when others that are in sit at home. I read a good article that said make the conference championship games play in games....Today Bama could have played Ole Miss..Winner is in and the loser is out.

Four conferences with 20 teams/2 dividions
.... the 10 teams in each division all play each other (the other 3 games don't affect division standings)
.... the 2 division winners play in the conference championship

Conference championship winners get first round home games against a runner-up from another conference.

The 8 first round winners play it off.

No committee. No polls needed. No bias affecting the playoff field. Win your division and you are in. Let the players/coaches decide it on the field.

It will never happen but it makes the most sense to me.
