As bad as they're beating them, does Bama get in and SMU get left out?

That would be my guess. It would be wrong, but it will probably happen. Short of losing 5 games, bammer is pretty much guaranteed a spot every year.

Its close now.

I am hoping SMU loses a close one and knocks bama out.  Finebaum thinks its possible.

I am pretty sure "SEC Clout" will get them in though.

With this close loss, I wonder if the CFP committee takes some creative liberty with the final rankings. If the 5-12 seeds end as

ND
Texas
OSU
PSU
UT
Clemson
SMU
Indiana

The first round matchups would be:
ND vs Indiana
Texas vs SMU
OSU vs Clemson
PSU vs UT

You would be hard pressed to get more ready made drama/story lines than those games.

I could live with that. I had rather play PSU than OSU.

Texas, Boise, Indiana, Notre Dame, Penn St, SMU, and Clemson are a COMBINED 1-9 against the Top 20 with the only win being Clemson over SMU.

That is an amazing statistic.

The best road to the CFP is now a schedule full of cupcakes, it seems.

It is. Strength of schedule is now irrelevant. The platoons has gone woke.

No way you can get the twelve best teams due to all the tie-ins. I guarantee Ole Miss, SCar, Bama and maybe even Mizzou would be favored over many of these teams that made it. I would pick all these teams over Clemson, SMU, Arizona St, Boise and maybe over ND. But that's just me. I would rather award tougher schedules. The committee want to reward weaker schedules I guess.

If the committee chooses, I think that the goal posts will move next season to fit the narrative. That's the problem with allowing people to select the field. Bias is always a factor.
