How much does he want? There has to be a limit. At some point, no one is worth some of the figures being thrown around.

Miami's Carson Beck and Duke's Darian Mensah got close to $4 million.
First of all, that's outrageous.
Secondly, where does Duke get $4 million for one player? Does everyone else get zero?

Word is he's been getting 2.5 million and wants 3 million. My question is, for what? I've seen nothing out of him that I've seen out of 95 percent of the QBs I watch every Saturday from morning until late night.

I was hoping he was going to give them refund. He didn't do bad for a freshman. Shedur Sanders I think got 4 mil. Was either of them worth it? I guess it doesn't matter at the end of the day. It's the game we have today. As Yogi Berra once said "The future ain't what it used to be".

Agree with the astute posters above. He's fine, but ain't nobody bidding for him, especially after spring practice.
Tying up 10% of NIL funds in a merely fine QB is too much.
As an aside, his camp (dad is my guess) has nuked goodwill with the latest two negotiations. But perhaps Dad sees him as a meal ticket and realizes an NFL future is iffy. Gotta get every penny now. Who knows?

If they give him more money it may cause dissension among the team. If you don't give him more money and he decides to leave, it may cause dissension among the team. Nice dilemma.

This is a conundrum, but perhaps it resolves itself. Here's why. The players and coaches know if Merklinger can play. If he can't, you gotta pay Nico. However, if he's highly regarded by his teammates they won't go anywhere if Nico departs.

Not to change the subject but these guys project Sampson to go 59th in the draft. Yahoo Sports
59. Dylan Sampson, RB, Tennessee Despite having just adequate size (5-8, 200 pounds at the combine), Sampson has the contact balance, pacing, and willingness to work between the tackles of a much bigger back. Sampson is an electric runner who can quickly get to top speed and to the second level, but stays more disciplined with his cuts than most smaller and speedier backs.
Sampson is also currently a poor pass protector. While he shows the competitiveness and toughness to try and fit up blitzers, Tennessee?s lack of structure and rules often put him at a disadvantage and he has a long way to go in that area, with his lack of size limiting his upside, too.
Overall, Sampson has real speed and knows how to channel it. His lack of size will limit how many touches he gets at the next level, but he has the vision and balance to make the most of those touches..,..What do they mean by Tennessee's lack of structure and rules. They had Pearce projected at number 42 selected

It has to get to where the players agree to, and sign, a contract and they are locked in for the extent of the contract. The portal needs to happen after the season and only players not under contract may participate. You can't effectively assemble and coach a team in todays environment. 100%

I am beginning to think that the money demand was just a cover. I think that he was concerned about the offensive line and receivers and instead of saying that he was leaving because of that, he made a demand for an outrageous amount. Or, he was just greedy.

Honestly, not sure he's smart enough to think about the O line. I think this was all about money. Just MO.
