It makes it clear that the father was screwing up this thing. Talk about over playing your hand.

Having concern about the offensive line is a legitimate concern. But when you then ask for so much more money, it seems as if the offensive line concern wasn't the number one concern.

It's a shame.

The view that Nico was in the dark?
I don't believe that
Was his dad calling the shots?
Hell yes!

The only real question I have with the entire episode was who leaked it to on3>
I originally assumed it was the Tennessee side but that doesn't make sense from a timing perspective
I'm beginning to believe someone in the Nico team did, perhaps without dad's knowledge
Possibly another school as well, that has an interest in getting Nico

Hid dad got the beginning of what he wanted, but at what cost to his son and to himeself
Rumours are that they are looking for an agent
A bit late on that front in my view

The only thing clear to me is that Nico's dad is not as intellegent as he believes he is and a greedy MF'er

I did consider emailing Nico at his IG Business Opportunities email to see if I could make some $$$ disposiing of his  unsold Tennessee gear

Josh Pate made it sound like Nico's team tried to get more funds before the playoffs.

Austin Price said he was unable to verify Pate's information about the almost hold-out in December.

I think there were negotiations in Dec.  Makes sense from a Dec portal perspective
I think Tennessee/Spyre held firm at that time

Subsequent to that my view is that Big Nic decided to shop him around
At some point someone, possibly Lanning, notified Heup and Tennessee what is going on
When Big Nic got with Tennessee sometime during the Spring practice that Tennessee told him to stuff it.

I continue to think that Big Nic had planned for Nico to walkaway yesterday

The on3 article did a few things
It pissed off Big Nic
See his profane response

It pissed of Tennessee, that the private issue became public
Big Nic believes that Tennessee leaked it
I believe they didn't as it would have no benefit to the school or team

Who did?
don't know but my two leading suggestions are
One of the teams that Big Nic had been shopping to and wanted Nico
Somebody else in the Big Nic extended family, which may have been one reason he was so pissed

Where do we go from here?
Bishop will wear jersey #8 this fall
Tennessee will bring in a starter QB from the portal
Whether he starts or Merk starts, who knows, though I tend to lean towards Merk as it seems to take a couple years to learn the system
Nico?
I think it is more likely that he signs for less than more than he was to make this year iin Knoxville
It will be for a team that plays a "pro style" offense, whatever that is

An on3 Writer (Ari Wasserman) wrote this column (not sure if it free to view or not)
https://www.on3.com/news/tennessee-becomes-the-dream-destination-for-any-quarterback-willing-to-seize-the-moment/

But he quotes Tony:

You?re either a Vol or you?re not.

True words and on point.

It will be a blessing in disguise. The newbies will be okay. We just need some more OL and you can never have too many good wr's. Hello portal. Can't believe this is not going to happen at other schools in the near future.

That timeline makes sense Pirate.

As for bringing in a starter from the portal, that seems like a tall task. However, I'm o.k. with Merklinger and MacIntyre having an in-season competition.

Pretty sure there were rumors about Nico negotiating last December, or maybe right after the playoffs. Its not news to me, at least.
