If we're bringing in a portal QB it seems one the following scenarios applies.

1) The return of Gaspipe means we need depth.

2) Bringing in a presumed starter means Merklinger has been deemed to not be the answer. If a guy off the street can learn enough to start in four months he's a prodigious talent or the current options are subpar.

I'm pulling for the first scenario, with newly freed funds going to other position groups. Nothing should be planned with Brandon in mind.

I would agree on renting GasPipe for 8 months would be a prefered option
Give him a $100K bump from his previous package and its still a win/win

However, I think Heup is going go with a starter
My favorites would be Robertson or Brown
Brown played for the Mad Russian so he knows the offense, but he was injured last year
Robertson plays in a fast offense with similar roots
